Why home rituals are an act of self-care

IMG_0249.jpg

We all have rituals in the home that we unconsciously repeat in order to keep our lives in order and flowing. Things like tidying up, doing laundry and making the bed are ways we can create a sense of order and focus in the home. Then there are the special rituals, the ones that are an act of self-care, setting the tone for how you want to feel. A primer to relax, decompress and recharge.

What’s lovely about home rituals is how unique they are to you and the purpose they represent. Personally, my favourite home rituals revolve around beautiful scents. I always light a scented candle when I want to set a tone for my time in the apartment. Or I burn the earthy smoke of palo santo to set an intention of grounding myself.

Rituals can be a tool for enjoyment and relaxation. Like bringing the lights down to create a mood in the evening while you have a glass of wine or a warm cup of tea. Reading a page turning book instead of scrolling on the phone before getting ready for bed. Rituals can be so simple but are little moments of taking space for ourselves - which is what self care is all about.

Think about what self care rituals you can begin for yourself in your home. I guarantee over time, these tiny acts will give so much back you you.

Enjoy the little things!
